Photo of the Day (8-27-08)

There is no telling when a photo will show up as a Photo of the Day. Ultraclay! posted this one December 1, 2006. Why now? Why today? These tango dancers, one a blur, but for the clasp of a hand, evokes a romantic dream--the type of shot that can only be captured at the right instant.

Great!

Send your captured moments our way at Gadling's Flickr Photo Pool. Who knows? Next week --, tomorrow, or two years from now, it could show up as a Photo of the Day.

Mallorca. This island situated some 250km of the southern coast of Spain is the largest of the Balearic Islands and home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. You may have heard of the Mediterranean party capital Ibiza? This is right next door.

I've been tossing around the idea of crashing in Palma, the capital of the Mallorca (and of the entire archipelago)
for Thanksgiving this year and believe that this photo taken by jonrawlinson may have finally helped me commit. Now, if only I could find good plane tickets.

Have any cool photos you'd like to share with the world? Add them to the Gadling Pool on Flickr, and it might be chosen as our Photo of the Day.

I'm a total sucker for street performances, especially when I travel, and especially if it's something cultural - I always stop and watch! This shot has been taken by user jonjanegoin on Nanjing Road in Shanghai, China. Its simplicity makes it so real -- and he's managed to capture a moment with as much precision as possible.

How often has this ever happened to you? You head down to the beach and there's nobody there. It's certainly not a pleasure I get to have very often - and definitely not during this time of year. Perhaps once Labor Day passes us by. In any case, hats off to Flickr user t3mujin, who captured his very own empty beach in Praia da Adraga, on the northern coast of Portugal.

Have any great photos from a deserted beach? Why not share them with us by adding them to the Gadling pool on Flickr? We just might choose your shot as our Photo of the Day.

If this photo doesn't scream summer, I don't know what does. The candy-colored shot was taken by PDPhotography at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, Canada. A great snapshot of the season!

This photo, from jrodmanjr, was taken in front of San Francisco's beautiful City Hall. Remember: if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

Many people are surprised by the cold, foggy weather that a San Francisco summer can deliver. But jrodmanjr made the most of it and snapped this great shot of the Golden Gate bridge.

This just might be that 'bridge to nowhere' we've all heard about.

This fountain in Madeira, Portugal says summer. How great would it be to run through this on a hot day?

I'm reminded of the other fountains where water arcs upwards from the ground. There's the fountain that Matt Harding of "Where the Hell is Matt?" dances in along with other dancing folks in Atlanta, Georgia, the one at the playground in Knights of Columbus Park in St. Cloud, Minnesota and the pop jet fountain at the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado.

This fountain shot by Donner00 looks almost animated. I can hear the sounds of the water--almost.

If you have a shot that has captured your fancy, capture ours at Gadling's Flickr photo pool. It could be chosen as a Photo of the Day.

Scrolling through the Gadling photo Flickr pool, it always amazes me to see the constant addition of simply great photography. Today's photo of the day is from Flickr member Phojo11, that has been shot in Stari Grad, Sarajevo. I found this photo completely unfamiliar, hence eye catching. The colors and the way it is shot gives so much life to the image and made me want to just step into the photo. A good example of simple yet illustrative photography.

It's been a long week at work, and I'm spent. Somehow I think this napping sea lion, taken by Flickr user goalielax, would probably agree with me. Goalielax caught this guy snoozing on Isla Española, one of the many islands that make up the Galapagos National Park in Ecuador. Take the rest of this lazy summer Sunday to rest up people, there's another week ahead of us!

Have any great images you've taken during your travels? Why not share them with Gadling? Add them to the Gadling group pool on Flickr and we just might select your shot as our Photo of the Day.
